Blood on My Mind
Last week I was trying to teach our kids in First Communion class that blood is a symbol for life. Jesus's blood is his life-force, flowing throughout all creation. But if we're being honest, blood is also kinda gross to think about.
So who'd have thought that a year after being called to Good Shepherd, with its stated focus on "God working in the community to heal those injured by life circumstances," I'd be sitting with 15 other members of my church learning how to treat literal injuries!
I'd like to thank Steve Bailey and Council for putting together the empowering Stop the Bleed Training provided by UVM Medical Center at Good Shepherd. It was a little bit gross. And perhaps it's an overly literal definition of "salvation," to think about saving someone's life at church. But it's also remarkable there's something ANY SINGLE ONE OF US could do to save a life. It really gives a new dimension to being the body of Christ in the world.
with love, Pr. Chelsea
