Rally Day

This Sunday, Michael Hechmer will preach on Mercy & Abundance in scripture, and youth will be helping to lead worship. I am very excited to welcome our Muslim neighbors into the sanctuary after worship to teach us about Islam. It is so gracious of them to reach out and share their wisdom about God with us.

Islam is a worldwide religion grounded in many different cultures, and I look forward to hearing from a Shi’a perspective, which I am less familiar with, presented by a fellow Vermonter who is passionate about lifting up universal and humanistic principles. Please come join us and invite your friends! (Did I mention there will be delicious Middle Eastern food?)

I noticed something interesting when we decorated our Narthex tree last week. When asked what it would feel like to be a beloved community, three or four people wrote “calm” on their leaves. News flash - the world we live in is anything but calm. Contention, chaos, and confusion are rife, but not calm. There is something empowering about coming to worship to find our calm center. People are also longing for a political calm rooted in clarity, facts, and shared purpose. Shock value only serves to numb, distract, or upset us. We long for places where we can carry out calm conversations that leave us feeling clear and centered. Let’s be that place this Sunday.
