High and Low

Last Sunday I preached that God is so unreasonable about loving us, God will break his own rules to keep the party going. Well, I got evidence of that when one red balloon snuck away to bop around our church ceiling all week long! Oops!

This Sunday, the gospel story will be about a party some snooty guests nearly ruined, but still, God just wouldn’t let the party be stopped. It reminds me a of a wonderful short film called The Lunch Date, which you can find on Youtube. A snooty lady is brought low by her own selfishness, but still, a sacred meal is shared.

This is what Rabbi David Zazlow calls “the mystery of high and low.” Jesus taught that all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. I hope my short film recommendation might lift your spirits this week. We could all use a taste of exaltation these days.
