The Great Expanse

Happy Father's Day to all who celebrate! Or should I say, Happy "God the Father" (plus Son and Holy Spirit) Day?

That's right, this coming Sunday is Trinity Sunday, the day when our church celebrates the expansive identity of God. Was Jesus God or human? How about a little bit of both? How about a LOT of both? Okay...so does that mean God is Three, or One? YES!

The Nicene Creed, which turns 1700 years old this year, says that the Spirit "proceeds" from the Father and the Son. Isn't it cool the way God's identity seems to change and expand over the course of the Bible as we come to greater understanding? Since we are made in the image of God, we get to celebrate our own complexities and changes too, as in today's expansive notion of a gender spectrum.

June is LGBTQ+ Pride month, and I'm so looking forward to exploring and expanding together as a church!
