Well, Did You Try Restarting It?
I am happy to report that my computer troubles were sorted out while I was on vacation, and hopefully I got a little RAM upgrade myself. Thank you for giving me this time to reboot. They say when you’re in doubt about your computer, try turning it off and on. Likewise, prayer is how we hit “restart” on our relationship with God.
Sunday’s gospel will be on the Lord’s Prayer, and Pr. Rick Neu had a fun suggestion. Have you ever tried praying the Lord’s Prayer in reverse order? Try praying it this way for a different experience:
Amen, Lord - yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory.
Deliver us from evil, and lead us not into temptation.
Help us to forgive those who trespass against us,
as you forgive us all our trespasses.
Give us this day our daily bread.
May your kingdom come and your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Prayer resets our focus on where it should be - on God’s goodness. Our only job in the Lord’s Prayer is to forgive, and even for that God provides the template. God’s forgiveness is the operating system we can all reboot from. When in doubt, hit restart.
with love, Pr. Chelsea
